Duty to Maintain in safe operating condition
15. An owner or user of an appliance, equipment, a work or any other thing employed in the handling or use of gas shall ensure that the appliance, equipment, work or thing employed in the handling or use of gas is Maintained in a safe operating condition. O. Reg. 212/01, s. 15
If you suspect that there may be a problem with your gas fireplace or if you know that there is something wrong with your fireplace, please let us know when you book your appointment.
The reason we ask this, is so that we send the proper technician to your home.
If you do not inform us that you are aware of something that may be wrong with your fireplace, and we send one of our Fresh Air Technicians, who is unable to perform the maintenance due to the service requirement, Fresh Air Duct Cleaning will charge an hourly fee of $60.00. You will then have to have a service technician visit your home to perform the correct repair, before the maintenance is performed.
If you have the maintenance performed by our technician after the repair, we will deduct the $60.00 hourly fee from the $80.00 maintenance charge.
Signs that your fireplace may need more work then a simple Fireplace Maintenance are:
The pilot light will not stay on - If you have lit the pilot light a few times and have followed the instructions to correctly light the gas fireplace, then your fireplace could require a service call. The thermocouple may need to be replaced.
Burners do not light up at all or part of the burners don't lit up - If you have a fireplace that has burners that will not light up at all, or part of the burners are lighting while the other burners don't, this could be a service call. 90% of the time this means that a cleaning is required but there are times that this can be a sign of something greater.
The Pilot light will not light and there is not any gas present, even when the gas turns on - If you have just moved into a new home or you haven't had the fireplace on in a while, this can happen. This is a service call and this could mean that the gas valves are failing, or spider nest have built over the orifice. (These are just a few reason, their could also be other reasons)
The Pilot light is on but the fireplace does not turn on - If your pilot light is at the correct setting of "On" and your fireplace will not come on, when you turn the Fireplace switch on, chances are that your wall switch or fireplace switch needs to be repaired or changed out. There could also be something else wrong but this will require a diagnostics.
If your fireplace is showing any of the signs above or if you think that there is something else wrong with your fireplace, please let us know when you make the appointment.
Even though all of our duct cleaning technicians are TSSA Certified Gas Technicians and are trained in repairs, we are not an HVAC service company, but a Furnace and Duct Cleaning company.
Please note: Our company primarily focuses on the maintenance of your HVAC duct system and the correct maintenance of your furnace/fireplace.
Fresh Air Duct Cleaning relies on Licensed Gas Contractors to do most of our service work. We can recommend contractors that we have worked in the past with, for all of your HVAC installation and service work.
